When you come across the word "calibrated" in the product name, expect exceptional quality. And if you spot "ATE" brand, make your expectations twofold. These calibrated powerlifting plates in India are, without a doubt, the FINEST I've ever had the pleasure of using.
For me, I put whatever weight on the bar, and it doesn’t matter. ๐คจ
But for other people, plates used in powerlifting (specs) are really, really important, and there’s no better way to do it than with Anand Track & Field Equipment Plates – manufactured in Meerut.
โ๏ธ These powerlifting plates India help you train, but get that same COMPETITION feel.
In any part of your lift, you definitely don’t want to be surprised on stage, so these give you the exact feel to train the way you compete and to have the bar stiffness the same at home or in the gym as it would on stage. ๐
Go ahead and comment below, are you one of those people who like to train like you compete?

Unboxing video of these plates –
โ๏ธ These come in Kilogram weights, and today I have our beautiful ๐ YELLOW 15-kg plate.
The 15 kg is the most misrepresented plate, so I thought I’d give it a TRY today to bring it right to you and show you the different specs and ins & outs of ATE powerlifting plates. โจ
Features they possess:
The ATE-calibrated weight plates boast an impressive accuracy level, with a tolerance of just +/- 5 to 45 grams.
This tight tolerance ensures you get the precise gains you’re aiming for.
Another great attribute of the calibrated plates is their slim profile. They allow you to load significantly more weight onto the bar while keeping it closer to your body.
These plates are slightly under an inch in width and approximately 20 to 30% slimmer than ATE bumper plates.
Calibrated plates are colour-coded according to standard weight denominations, making it easy to identify and load the desired weight quickly.
They often have smooth, uniform edges and surfaces, but this may make them harder to grip.
The reason you want a thinner plate is it keeps the weight closer to your centre of mass and gives a completely different feel on the bar, one that you will feel in competition.
โ๏ธ These plates are machined iron with a beautiful powder coat finish that I think looks absolutely phenomenal. ๐
So today, I’m going to do a quick overview of our ATE calibrated powerlifting plates.๐ธ
โ I really love these plates, and they add a vibrant splash of colour to my home gym setup.
Most of my gym equipment is BLACK, with some colour accents, and light green walls in the background.
So, having iron plates in various colours ๐ like red, blue, yellow, green, and even white adds a visually appealing touch. If I had gone with standard plates, whether they were cast iron or machined, they would all be a single colour, lacking that eye-catching element.
Plus, let’s be honest, they look fantastic on Instagram, and we all know the importance of sharing your gym pictures there.
โ๏ธ According to ATE’s website, these plates are guaranteed to be within +/- 5 to 45 grams of the specified weight, which is incredibly precise.
To put it in perspective, 45 grams is roughly equivalent to 45 paper clips. So, for a 15 kg plate, you’re looking at a maximum deviation of 45 grams, probably even LESS.
In comparison, cheaper cast iron plates in India can be off by 1 to 3 kg or more, especially on 25 kg plates.
This might not seem significant at first, but imagine loading 4 or 5 plates on one side of a squat bar, and all the heavier plates are on one side while the lighter ones are on the other.
This can create a 13 kg difference between the two sides, significantly affecting your lifts. ๐
You could weigh cheaper weight plates individually and label their weights with a MARKER, but with ATE calibrated plates you donโt have to deal with this discomfort.๐
โ๏ธ Moreover, the inside tolerances of these plates are exceptional. They fit snugly on the bar, minimising any wobbling during lifts. ๐
Cheaper plates with larger holes tend to rattle and even slide off, which can be quite frustrating.
In comparison, calibrated plates offer a secure fit especially if your powerlifting barbell has a groove pattern.
However, there is one drawback I should mention: the lack of a substantial lip on these plates.โ
While this design choice keeps them thin and stackable, it also means you’ll typically need to use both hands when removing or adding them to the bar.
โ๏ธ A deeper dish design allows for one-handed handling, making them more convenient. Nonetheless, the extra grip challenge can be viewed as an additional benefit for grip training.
Another side note is these calibrated plates are not IPF-certified but closely follow IPF standards. ๐คจ
These have not been certified by the IPF, so if you’re looking to compete with these or if you’re a gym that wants to buy them for competition.
Unfortunately, this version will not meet IPF standards because they have not gone through the IPF sanctioning.
But NO other plate in India is IPF certified, not even CHALLENGE-calibrated plates, so you’re not compromising here.
(โก๏ธ It’s basically a certification which is to be bought from the federation, but it is not mandatory at all; you can still use these plates for competitions. Who is stopping you?๐คจ)
But YES, in big competitions organised by PI (powerlifting India), or another you will always find theyโre using IPF approved – Imported ELEIKO plates/ or ROGUE plates. ๐
โ๏ธ So, whether you’re looking to compete on the platform or just compete at home, there’s no better place to do it than with the ATE calibrated powerlifting plates.
No iron plates I have ever seen or read about don’t chip off or shatterproof.
No matter whether a company sells for Rs 200 per kg, or it is super expensive ๐ธ available at Rs 400 per kg.
I have read other blogs too as a part of my research before writing this blog, the scratching of paint problems is seen even in International brands like Rogue plates or Eleiko plates.
โ๏ธ Reasons for paint chip off –
These are the EXACT same reasons why my 15 kg plate paint chips off after 10 days of use.
Paint comes out easily, especially from the centre hole because it’s rubbed against a grooved pattern ATE barbell sleeve.
So you have to deal with it carefully!
My Recommendation: If you're not powerlifter, and don't have a strong corner in your heart about iron plates - get bumper plates. Its safe for home gyms and commercial gyms, also they don't damage your equipment, floor, and remains silent. Hardly you will ever notice its rubber chip off problem.
The most significant concern for many potential buyers is the price.๐ท๏ธ
Calibrated plates, on average, cost slightly more than Rs 200 per kg, not including shipping. Yes!
I’m happy with my plates. In fact, I’m considering expanding my collection, and I’m torn between adding more bumper plates or trying out the new powerlifting plates for my home gym.
๐ You might not feel the need for calibrated plates in a home setup, and that’s perfectly understandable.
However, don’t be deterred by the price, as they are not as costly as machined plates or competition bumpers.
In fact, when comparing:
While they may be considered pricey,๐ท๏ธ it’s not an exorbitant expense.
Let’s take a look at the pricing from the 4 major brands for calibrated powerlifting plates in India for the sake of comparison.
ATE | Bullrock | Performer | Challenge | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Per Kg cost | Rs 232 | Rs 278 | Rs 160 + 18% GST = Rs 180. | Rs 200 (approx) |
100 kg Plates only | Rs 23,200 | Rs 27,822 + shipping | Rs 18,000 + shipping | Rs 20,000 + Shipping |
With barbell (290 kg full set) | Rs 88,000 final | Rs 93,160 + shipping | Rs 49,000 + GST & shipping | Rs 85,000 + shipping |
** Above prices are ESTIMATES only, take actual prices from companies! It may not contain shipping costs, which vary from pincode to pincode.
ATE brand consistently offers the most competitive prices.๐ฐ
However, keep in mind that shipping multiple pairs or larger sets can incur significant costs.
So, don’t overlook PERFORMER as an alternative; it’s wise to obtain multiple shipping quotes to make an informed decision.
๐ ATE company calibrated plates go anywhere from 10 to 25 kg, machined cast iron plates ranging from 0.5 to 5.0 kg.
Clearly, if you’re on a tight budget, premium calibrated weights might not be your obvious choice.
However, if money isn’t a concern and you were already planning to invest in some machined plates (which I believe serious lifters should choose), then upgrading to calibrated powerlifting plates in India is a NICE option.
๐ To simplify it for you,
NOTE: โGo cheap, but donโt go for the cheapest.โ
I know people who bought colour iron plates at Rs 130/per kg and then complained of poor plate finish, terrible weight accuracy (a 25 kg plate weighs only 23 kg), and struggling to load their plates onto the 50mm sleeves.ย ย ย
In the grand scheme of things, if you can afford it, investing in good BRANDED Calibrated weight plates can significantly benefit your gym. ๐
However, for most people’s needs, cast iron plates will be OKAY from a technical standpoint.๐
Calibrated plates are precision plates specifically measured to adhere to strict weight standards, commonly used in competitive lifting sports like powerlifting.
Calibrated plates are rigorously tested for accuracy and maintain precise weight measurements. That’s Why they are supposed to be used in competitions. Non-calibrated plates may not meet the same stringent weight standards. So they cost less and are better to use in training or home gym setups.
Calibrated plates are used in powerlifting competitions and are not meant for dropping. Bumper plates are designed for Olympic weightlifting and can be safely dropped a thousand times without damaging the floor or the plates.
It depends! Bumper plates are fit for Olympic lifting sports since they drop the weight from a height. However, iron plates are ideal for powerlifting and gyms, where you use them as static weights.
Also, iron plates can be loaded more in weight on barbell sleeves since theyโre thinner in width. Check your training style before buying.
Iron plates are heavier due to the density of the material, typically cast iron or steel. You will experience a lot difference holding a 15 kg bumper plate and the same 15kg iron plate.
Yes, may it be a bumper plate or iron plate? Any competition weight plates are calibrated to meet strict weight standards to be used for competitions. Why is it so? Because in competitions a few grams difference can cost you 1 place down. So don’t risk it, buy calibrated plates for competition use.
The plug is made of lead, and lead is a much denser material than iron, which gives you the exact weight you’re looking for without having to have a really bulky plate. This is how you finish the calibration process, by making sure these plugs come to the exact weight to finish off the weight of the plate.
โ These powerlifting plates in India stand out as exceptionally slim, making them the top choice for powerlifters.
The 15 kg plates have a diameter of just over 21mm, allowing you to load well over 500 kg on a standard 16โ Olympic barbell sleeve.
It’s worth mentioning that the powder coating tends to chip quite easily, especially of the centre hole, and despite not using these plates as extensively as some others, they appear more worn than expected.
However, they do have a smooth appearance when the paint is fresh.
