Why You Need This Barbell?

Some of you may know this, but I gotta clear the air really fast.

powerlifting plates

✔️ Powerlifting revolves around the big three movements: Squat, Bench and Deadlift.

Since you do need a barbell to perform each of these lifts, it’s good to have 1 that’s going to pair with them well.

In the beginning, you know it really doesn’t matter what kind of barbell you have just as long as it is a solid one.

But as you start to get stronger, you start adding on heavier weights for your lifts. The type of bar you have can make a pretty big difference.

What Are Powerlifting Barbells?

powerlifting barbell

✔️ A powerlifting barbell, like this one, they’re gonna have a deeper knurling that provides a better grip for those heavier loads.

Powerlifting bars also have a higher tensile strength rating, which can handle those heavy loads. 😅

👉 We can dive more into speciality bars and whip-on bars for the big three lifts, but for now just know that powerlifting bars have an emphasis on the knurling and the tensile strength rating.

Check the ATE powerlifting bar video:

Features of the ATE power bar

ATE IPF powerlifting bar specs

👉 The ATE power bar as I mentioned is a fully hard chrome power bar which is everything you could hope and dream for in terms of protection from rust and corrosion, especially if you live in a human environment.

The sleeves also have about 433 MM or 17.04 inches of loading space for you to put your plates on and the diameter of this bar is about 29 millimetres which will really help you get that good grip you’re looking for.

🏋️‍♂️ Since you can load up to 2000 pounds and this has a tensile strength rating of 200 000 PSI this barbell is an absolute beast in the gym.

The knurling on this bar is a 1.5 MM volcano pattern, and it’s not overly aggressive, meaning it’s a good option for almost every powerlifter out there.

😊 You’re going to tell a difference between the grip on this one and one of those you do have a centre knurling on this barbell, which is great for those back squats or anything utilizing a suitcase grip.

👉 You’ll notice the sleeves have a grooved pattern which may help your plates stay in place longer.

While it also has 6 self-lubricating bronze bushings allowing the bar to spin for those Powerlifting style lifts, just enough.

What Do I Like About The ATE powerlifting bar weight?

1. Full hard Chrome:
ATE IPF powerlifting bar specs
ATE powerlifting bar weight

👉 Well, for starters, from end to end ATE powerlifting bar weight is a full hard chrome finish, which is really all you could ever ask for in terms of protection from rust and corrosion.

This type of coating works well for cooler climates.

2. Single Knurl Mark:

You only have one IPF knurl marking here, well that’s because this is not meant for those Olympic-style lifts. Those types of barbells are going to have that outside marking letting you know what your furthest possible grip can be.

✅ An IPF knurl mark specifies that the barbell is a power bar and follows all the IPF guidelines.

A lot of times you’ll notice on barbells they have double knurl markings that’s a barbell that’s meant for power cleans like I said this bar is not for that. 🔥

3. Sleeves:

They do spin a little because of having bushings in them, but they’re not going to spin as freely as a more ATE weightlifting bar.

That’s because this bar isn’t as versatile.

It’s meant for powerlifting only, and the sleeves finish is also equipped with a grooves pattern, meaning plates are going to stick with it. But still you’re going to need a pair of weight collars to keep those weight plates locked in place (for safety reasons.🦺)

#4 Good Knurling:
POWERLIFTING BAR BEARINGS ATE BARBELL INDIA REVIEW

👉 The knurling you’re going to find here is awesome. It has a 1.5MM volcano knurl. It’s going to make you feel as if you’re freaking glued on your hands during your lifts.

You also see a center knurl here. It’s awesome in terms of your back squats. It’s going to allow that barbell to stay in place a little bit better sticking.

While the knurling, it’s a little on the medium side.

#5 Good tensile strength:
Barbell Strength MENSQUATS

You can add up to 2000 pounds/ 907 Kg on this bar while it also has a tensile strength rating of 200 000 PSI.

Meaning, it’s going to handle all types of punishment that come it’s way in the gym and you do not have to worry about it bending or breaking anytime soon.🔥

#6 Thin collars:
ATE Powerlifting Barbell in India
ATE Powerlifting Barbell in India

Have you seen an eleiko power bar, it has thin collars. This design is inspired by them and it allows the ATE barbell loadable sleeves to be longer (433 MM) and gives the ability to load more plates onto the bar.

This also decreases the distance between the 2 plate ends and makes the bar stiffer.

(Exactly what you want for powerlifting)😅

🏋️‍♂️ In terms of powerlifting bars, it’s not too aggressive but you definitely don’t want to do any power cleans with this bar because it’s going to tear up your hands.

What I Don’t Like About The ATE powerlifting Barbell in India?

☑️ As usual, there could be some potential cons with this bar which you might not like

#1 Little less Aggressive Knurling:

The customer claims the knurl on this barbell is on the medium side, but I don’t really know if that’s an accurate description since this is a power bar.

The knurling is 1.5 MM volcano knurl than one on a more versatile bar and it’s gonna tear up your hands. If you’re wanting to perform Olympic style and Crossfit style lifts.

This is not the bar to handle those.

🏋️‍♂️ I would definitely suggest looking at a different option such as the ATE eagle barbell or maybe even the ATE Red Falcon Bar, since the shaft knurl there is smooth. ❤️

But if you want an aggressive volcano knurl in your power bar then you can get Siege Fitness Chieftain E-coat Bar.

💰 Price of the barbell

Listed around Rs 17000 + GST & shipping on the ATE Website, this is a little on the expensive side compared to some other competition, but once you consider the quality you’re finding here, it’s a pretty good deal.

The hard chrome sleeves are included.

Well, some other companies may make you pay extra for that extra protection and shipping is free, which is pretty rare when it comes to fitness equipment if you don’t want to spend 💰 a load at one time.

ate powerlifting bar price
Ate powerlifting barbell price

☑️ Once you factor in shipping, you’re looking at around Rs 21,240 as your total. 🤑

ATE also allows you to use pay later through bank credit cards, which will divide everything up into 3 interest-free payments of around Rs. XXX (Check on your own)

Since these prices are relatively similar if you buy a Challenge power bar or Siege Fitness Power bar, or any powerlifting bar let for say.

It may be worth going for the ATE power bar which is of the highest quality, and you have to pay that much.😊

Who should buy this barbell?

✅ That’s a very good question so if you’re new to powerlifting, you’re gonna love the fact that the knurling on this bar it’s more on the moderate side. 😊

Meaning your hands shouldn’t get torn up in the process of working out and since this is a hard chrome coating, you’re gonna have better luck with this one fighting off rust than the other options (like black oxide or bare steel).

👉 Since it has a max loading capacity of 916 kg (technically you can’t load that much) and it has a tensile strength rating of 200 000 PSI.

This bar is really going to take any punishment that comes its way and it might be the last bar you ever need to buy for a virtually professional-level powerlifter.

Who shouldn’t buy this barbell?

✅ Let’s start with the beginners most likely while you’re beginning powerlifting.

You’re not really loading on a ton of weight to your barbell. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t recommend this bar for you because that’s what it’s meant for. 😊

If you want a bar, that’s more versatile, it’s going to allow you to do those power cleans of any Olympic-style or CrossFit-style lift. I’d suggest a different bar maybe the ATE eagle barbell or the ATE Red Falcon bar (which I personally own) as I spoke about earlier. 👍

Those are two really good options when it comes to those styles of lifts.

Conclusion

all barbell
💰 You know Rs 21,240 (including GST and shipping) is a lot of money for a barbell, especially once you consider getting yourself a set of ATE bumper weight plates.

If this falls out of your price range I’d recommend a cheaper bar like LEEWAY Ostin barbell for just Rs 9000, 🤑 but since it’s cheaper, it’s not guaranteed it’s made of good tensile steel like this bar is or guaranteed to even handle the amount of punishment the ATE powerlifting bar can.

With this one, you’re buying quality, meaning it could be the last barbell that you ever need to buy. ❤

FAQs
Q: Do they add bar weight in powerlifting?

In powerlifting competitions, the weight of the barbell is added to the weight lifted by the lifter. The weight of the barbell is a standardized weight that is used in all competitions and is not included in the lifter’s total weight lifted.👍

Q2: What barbell is used in powerlifting?

The barbell used in powerlifting is typically a thicker version (29 MM) of a standard barbell. It is designed to hold a much heavier load than a regular barbell and is made of high-quality steel. The barbell has a specific set of specifications that conform to the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) rules, including its weight, length, and diameter.

Q3: What size bar do powerlifters use?

Powerlifters use a barbell that is 2.2 meters (7.2 feet) long and has a diameter of 29 millimetres (1.14 inches). This bar is thicker than a standard barbell, allowing for a more secure grip and greater stability when lifting heavy weights.👍

Q4: How much weight can a barbell hold before it breaks?

The amount of weight a barbell can hold before it breaks depends on several factors, including the quality of the bar, the weight distribution, and the technique used during lifting. A high-quality powerlifting barbell can typically hold up to 915 KG or more before it breaks.

Q5: How heavy is a powerlifting bar?

A powerlifting barbell typically weighs 20 kg. However, some bars designed for deadlifts or squats may weigh 20 kg to 25 kgs.

Q6: How long is a powerlifting barbell?

A powerlifting barbell is typically 2.2 meters (7.2 feet) long. The sleeves, where the weights are loaded, are usually around 16 inches in length.

Q7: How do you tell if a bar is a powerlifting bar?

There are a few ways to tell if a bar is a powerlifting bar.

  • First, powerlifting bars are typically thicker and stiffer than standard barbells.
  • They also have a more aggressive knurling pattern to provide a better grip.
  • Additionally, powerlifting bars have specific markings on the bar that indicates where the grip should be placed during each lift.
  • Finally, you can see the collars of the bar are made thinner in power bars like you see in the eleiko power bar. Seeing all these parameters, you can tell if a bar is a powerlifting bar or not.
Q8: Can you roll the bar in powerlifting?

A: In powerlifting, you are not allowed to roll the bar during any of the three lifts (squat, bench press, or deadlift). The bar must be lifted under control and placed back down without any excessive movement.

Q9: Do powerlifting bars bend?

Powerlifting bars are designed to be able to handle heavy weights without bending or breaking.

However, when extremely heavy loads are used, it is possible for the bar to experience some slight bending or flexing, which is referred to as “whip.”

Some lifters prefer bars with more whip as it can help with explosiveness during lifts, while others prefer stiffer bars.
