When buying a best treadmill brands in India for home use you need to pick the right one based on your weight, and height whether you use it for walking, jogging or running.
Otherwise, it will just become yet another showpiece you are holding in your house.
Let’s figure out how to decide that. Today along with identifying the best treadmill in India based on these parameters.
I’ve reviewed about 17 treadmills across the brands: Lifelong, Cockatoo, Max Pro, Power Max Fitness, Sparnod fitness and Durafit.
Each of these brands has different ones for different usage, weights and heights.
First, let’s get the pricing, reviews and warranty out of the way. As you can know, treadmills come in various different prices from 10,000 – 11,000 rupees all the way up to 40,000 – 50,000.
Most of them give a 1-year warranty with 3 years on the motor and a 5-year or lifetime warranty on the frame itself.
There are hundreds of models available in the market.
I’ve chosen the best ones to compare in this review blog to identify the best treadmill for you.
The next thing to check is the supported weight. The models of treadmills compared are in the range of 90 to 125 kgs.
(Remember that this is the maximum weight of the user while you're walking.)
If you’re going to use it for running, reduce the max weight by 20 to 30 kgs. For example, if you want to use the treadmill for running and the treadmill has a max user weight of 100 kgs.
The maximum weight of the user for running should be between 70 and 80 kgs only!
The horsepower is the heart of the machine. Generally, a machine with higher horsepower will support heavier weights.
In general, two numbers are depicted for horsepower:
Ideally, when using it for running, you should buy one that has a continuous horsepower of 1.5 or 2 hp. If you’re using it mainly for walking, a lower horsepower is still okay!
If you’re planning to use the machine for running and you’re above 100 kgs in weight, select one with a minimum horsepower of 2 hp – continuous horsepower.
This is the area where most people go wrong.
If the continuous horsepower is not listed and only peak horsepower is listed then continuous horsepower will be approximately half of the peak.
The next important criterion is the running area. Taller people require a bigger running area. Runners require a longer running area.
Why? Because their strides are a lot longer. If you select a smaller running area, it will not be usable at all or it will not be comfortable.
So what is a comfortable running area to look for while walking or jogging?
A minimum of 1000 mm in length and 380 mm in width.
For running a minimum of a thousand 100 mm in length and 400 mm in width.
The models compared under 15 000 durafit efficio, lifelong fit pro, durafit compact have a smaller running area and are ideal only for walking and light jogging.
These are typical; you may be faster or slower in which case you need to factor those into account.
So if you’re using the treadmill mainly for walking.
In general, the models compared have speeds of 8 to almost 15-16 kilometres per hour.
Inclination comes in two variants: One is a manual incline and an automatic incline.
In the MANUAL incline as the name suggests you have to manually adjust the treadmill if you want to add more intensity.
In the AUTOMATIC incline, there will be a motor which will adjust up to 15% incline. If you intend to use it intensively or different people in your family use it – an automatic incline will be useful.
But they are more expensive; only the top-end models like Durafit Heavy Hike, Sparnoid fitness STH-4200 and MAXPRO PTA-460 offer automatic incline.
If you have a lot of space in your house and can keep your treadmill open at all times. Good for you!
But if you are short on space? Treadmills can be folded in two ways: a vertical and a horizontal fold.
These are convenient for people who are extremely short on space or don’t want to show the treadmill.
Only three models compared allow a horizontal fold – A Durafit compact, the Sparnoid fitness STH-3000 and Durafit Efficio.
None of these models has a video screen. Most of them have an LCD screen for controls.
The horizontal fold models come with a remote as they don’t have a bulky display on top for you to hold on to on the treadmill.
The next few capabilities are only nice to have, not the most important capabilities in a treadmill. Most models except the horizontal fold model also come with speakers which you can connect using Bluetooth or USB or aux.
Some models are able to connect to an app where you can see various statistics of your workout.
Okay! so now that we’ve covered what you have to absolutely look for let’s get to my recommendation, which as always I’ve categorised based on usage.
#1 Durafit Compact Treadmill
Best budget treadmill for walking
Durafit compact treadmill available at around 15 000 is great. This supports users up to 100 kgs, has a continuous horsepower of 1.25 and a max speed of 8 kilometres per hour.
Therefore ideal for walking and light jogging only. It’s also a great space saver as it can be collapsed and stored under the bed.
Since it can be horizontally collapsed it inclination cannot be adjusted.
#2 Power max fitness tdm 9x
Best treadmill for home use under 25000
This treadmill is great for this. It’s available at around 18 000 supports users up to 100 kgs with a maximum speed of 10 kilometres per hour and a continuous horsepower of 1.75.
This treadmill is ideal for walking, jogging and only light running. It has a larger running area and 1100 by 400 mm ideal for jogging and light running, as mentioned earlier. It does have an incline adjustment, but it’s manual with three levels.
#3 Sparnoid fitness sth 3000
Best treadmill under 30000 in india for home use
It is available at around 28,000 can be collapsed horizontally, which can be put under your bed with a continuous horsepower of 2.25 a user weight of 110 kgs, which is a running weight of 85 to 90 kgs and a large running area.
This can be ideal for running.
Again, since it can be collapsed horizontally incline cannot be adjusted.
#4 Durafit heavy hike
Overall best treadmill brands in India
There are many treadmills available at a much higher price point than the one I am recommending but comparing the specs this gives equivalent or even better capabilities than some of the higher ones.
Available at around Rs 35 000.
It’s got a fairly large running area of close to 1300 by 500 mm , 2.5 continuous horsepower and a 16 kilometre-per-hour high speed and an auto inclination of 16 levels, which is ideal for runners. Or if more than one person is using the treadmill at home.
Yes, you can wear trail running shoes on a treadmill, but they may not be the most comfortable option.
On a treadmill, you don’t need as much support or protection, so you may find that trail running shoes feel bulky or heavy.
It’s generally recommended to wear running shoes specifically designed for indoor use on a treadmill, as they offer better traction and are more lightweight and comfortable.
Consider the space you have available in your home gym or workout area, as well as the weight and height of the people who will be using the treadmill.
A standard running surface is around 55 inches long and 20 inches wide, but taller or heavier individuals may need a larger running surface.
The motor power you need will depend on your weight, your workout intensity, and the size of the treadmill.
Generally, a motor with at least 2.5 horsepower is sufficient for most users.
An incline on a treadmill allows you to simulate uphill running, which can increase your workout intensity and target different muscle groups.
It can also help you burn more calories and improve your cardiovascular fitness.
Manual treadmills are typically less expensive than motorized treadmills and do not require an electrical outlet.
However, they can be difficult to use and provide a less comfortable workout experience.
They are generally recommended only for occasional use or for people on a tight budget.
A folding treadmill can be folded up and stored away when not in use, making it a good option for people with limited space.
Non-folding treadmills are typically sturdier and more durable, but take up more space.
The cost of repairing a treadmill can vary depending on the type of repair needed, the age and model of the treadmill, and your location.
Minor repairs, such as replacing a belt or adjusting the incline, may cost a few hundred.
However, more significant repairs, such as replacing the motor or electronic components, can cost several hundred or even thousands of ruppees.
Losing weight on a treadmill in just two weeks is a challenging goal that may not be achievable or healthy for everyone. However, incorporating regular treadmill workouts into a comprehensive weight loss plan can be an effective strategy.
To lose weight on a treadmill, aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week, such as jogging, running, or walking uphill.
Combine your treadmill workouts with strength training exercises and a healthy, balanced diet to maximise weight loss.
